Infinity Fountain

The Infinity Fountain is a 360 degree presentation sculptural piece that has a bit of a history. This design evolved over a period of time.  My initial inspiration was a cypress knee that I saw years ago in a nature park near Lake Jessup and Sanford, FL where I lived for ten years, 1988-1998.  The cypress knee was near the end of its life and had eroded from it’s original cone shape to the point that it was in the shape of a tripod.  I thought it was so cool.  In the early 2000’s when I was looking for ideas  for sculptural designs to enter into juried fine art shows I remembered that cypress knee.  I went back to take a picture of it, but sadly, it was gone, absorbed back into nature.  The first fountain based on it I gave the title: Cypress Knee Fountain. A no brainer.

Next, I thought back to the amazing stone arches I saw in the Western, USA when on vacation in the early 1980’s.  Like the one my orange VW camper is driving through in my 1987 Flashback video.  So I built several Cypress Knee fountains that featured arches.  The next element that helped in the evolution of the Infinity fountain is my realization that the holes that are often in large landscape coquina rocks used in landscape design occur naturally.  For years I thought they were man-made, drilled mechanically, to give the rocks more character.  However, when I first visited Washington Oaks State Gardens, FL, I came to realize that the holes are indeed drilled by the action of the waves and sand. Feeling like I was given artistic license by nature, I made the Weisman fountain, my first fountain with a “hole” in it!  Next, I put a “hole” in the front of an arched cypress knee fountain.  I noticed that you could trace the infinity symbol, from the arches to the hole.  The name “Infinity” clicked.  Price range $3,000 to 3,500.
